Homoeopathy is based
on the idea that a patient can be helped if they are given a tiny amount
of a substance that mimics the symptoms of the original illness.
Two hundred years
ago the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann used this principle to develop
a series of remedies. He systematically tested substances on healthy
human beings (including himself) and recorded the effect they had. He
noticed that only minuscule amounts of the substance were needed to
stimulate the body into building up resistance to illness and that the
remedies affected people differently, depending on their physical and
mental character.
These days there
are many hundreds of homoeopathic remedies based on substances ranging
from sulphur and sand to cuttlefish and poison ivy. The remedies are
all non-toxic, non-habit forming and safe. They can often work very
quickly.
Homoeopathy can
be used by anyone of any age. It can also help where other forms of
medicine find the symptoms too vague to treat.
The initial consultation
will involve answering many questions to establish your homoeopathic
character and the details of your particular complaint. These might
include your favourite and least favourite foods, reactions to changes
in temperature and sleep patterns as well as the past health of yourself
and your family.
The initial consultation
takes about one and a half hours. Subsequent consultations are about
30 minutes.
